About this Position
Internship Introduction
We look for students with good communicative skills, driven to learn, and are willing to open themselves up to the opportunity of learning from the best. By working together with many teams in the office, interns will assist in multiple projects, all on BIM, and all on their own set of equipment. We target to train all interns that enter our office to be more than equipped to service the Construction Industry when they leave.
Interns will be given the chance to be engaged in a range of projects – highrise residential, landed housing, data centres, 3-star to 6-star hotels, commercial buildings, huge retail malls and educational institutions. Under the guidance of our technical staff, the experience the interns leave with, will ensure they are more than prepared for working conditions.Interns will be directly involved in:
- Take off processes on 3D software for Preliminary Cost Plans to Tender Bills of Quantities
- Compiling Bill of Quantities & Contract Documents
- Elemental Cost Analysis & Structural Analysis of past projects
- Assisting in tender evaluations and reporting
- Valuations of interim payment recommendations and variations
- Opportunities to follow Senior QS’s to site for meetings
- Final Accounts re-measurement & preparation
- Learning essential BIM skills
Our program has been tailored to meet the requirements of all major education institutions who have consistently directed their students towards learning from our internship programme.
INTAKE
Our doors are always open for applications, as varying institutions have differing internship periods for both diploma and degree students. Internship programs run for a range of 12 to 24 weeks. We are flexible according to the institutions requirements
LEARNING OUTCOMES
We provide our interns an experience of the working world, providing them opportunities to be engaged on live projects, working on the processes as previously stated. Following their time here, students should be more than prepared for engaging projects during proper employment
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
As Quantity Surveyors, we believe that the best way to learn in the Construction Industry is by assisting on projects hands on. Due to the sheer diversity of projects that PKT is currently engaged on, interns will be given a chance to assist in high-rise residential, commercial, retail centres, hotels, and entertainment centres, to name a few. By being immediately engaged in Quantity Surveying processes such as quantity take-off (building material measurement), quantity input to assist in preparation of cost plans and bills of quantities, tender reporting, interim valuations, variation evaluations and final account re-measurements, interns will benefit by learning on some of the biggest projects in Malaysia.
GUIDANCE & ENGAGEMENT
Each intern will be assigned a mentor upon their introduction into the office, who will be responsible for guiding the learning process of each intern. Given that the mentors will be job captains for their own projects, which can range in type of building and where the building currently is in planning or construction, each intern will have a unique learning experience. Where possible, interns will be placed so that they can experience projects that are both in planning and construction stages.
Our office is an open office that encourages innovation and learning, so interns are always encouraged to constantly ask questions where they do not fully understand something. In addition, sharing sessions from suppliers and contractors are organized fortnightly to share information about their product in the industry.
What is required from you
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION
Requirement for applicants are for them to be either a Diploma or Degree student in Quantity Surveying. While majority of students apply during institution internship periods, students may apply outside of institution obligatory internship periods if they fall into this category. Applicant will be evaluated for enrolment based on merit.
Necessary documentation from the universities must be provided to the administration for completion and submission to the respective universities.
